Vay-Kay Oh-Two

Time for today's installment of Vay-Kay! Lucky for you, these photos uploaded correctly and you can check them out without tilting your head sideways:)

Guess what was just up the street from our hotel?

Urban Outfitters! Being a deprived Nova Scotian, I was pumped to find it so close to where we were staying. I mostly went there to browse, since suitcases and airplanes are not the best mode of transporting fun new finds. I spotted this sweet K, but alas, the thin metal frame would have been destroyed by the squishy suitcase.

I did, however, find a sweet rug for our living room - I folded that beast into submission and it made the cut. Here is the same one hanging up in the store.

The rug matches everything in our living room, but they aren't really colours that I'm drawn to. I decided to bite the bullet and matching/coolness comes first. :) And... it was on super-duper sale, so that helped, too!

We found a few other odds and ends, like mustache bandages, a cross-stitched plate, and fake Ray-Bans for D (which I may or may not steal from him). My trusty darling lugged our purchases all around town. What a doll!

Hope you're enjoying this rainy day - I have the day off of work, so I got caught up on some super neglected everyday chores. Our place smells fresh again!

Happy Thursday!

Here's What's Coming Up.

I was so excited - I edited all my mini album pictures and was going to share some crafty fun with you tonight. Blogger is being a bugger and is uploading all of my pics sideways. Boo hoo! Here's a (sideways) peek at the cover - I'll try again tomorrow!

Happy Wednesday!

Vay-kay Oh-One

I decided to break my vacation slash vacation photos down into segments for you over the next couple of days. We had so much fun on our Toronto trip that it's impossible to pack it all into one post. I hope you enjoy a little peek into our escapade!

This trip was my first time flying, other than with my friends and their dad in his four-seater. I loved it - totally not scary! Here's a shot of my little screen before we left ground:

Yay! We're off! I took a little video of our take off that I might show you later. Here's us above the clouds - go West Jet!

Whew - this is the max altitude and speed that we reached. Holy shnikies!

Relatively clear skies :) What a pretty morning...

Here's our first glimpse of Toronto - you can see the CN Tower... I made a little arrow for you :)

So we landed safely, made our way through the baggage claim in the airport, then caught a cab to our downtown hotel. Traffic was a little crazy - a 20 minute drive took over an hour. We arrived at our hotel, the Sheraton, at lunchtime, and decided to see if we could check our baggage, rather than drag it around the city :)

The guy at the front desk told us that we could do an early check-in, and noticed that there were only two of us. He offered us a king-sized room instead of a room with two double beds. Sweet deal! He asked if we wanted to sign up for the free rewards program, and we agreed, so he told us that he'd check with his manager about giving us a better upgrade. He came back and told us that we could have a junior suite, and it was ready up on the 24th floor. Sweet deal!

We took the elevator up and housekeeping was still in the room, so we took our luggage back down and asked if we could just check our bags until later. The man was so apologetic that the room wasn't finished, although we reassured him that it was no big deal. He gave us vouchers for free breakfast buffets for all three mornings! They were $27 a piece - times six - $162 worth of freebies!

We went up to our room, unlocked the door, and this was waiting for us...

Seriously, the biggest hotel room that I was ever in! Two couches, flat-screen TV, two wardrobes, and a beautiful bathroom - not to mention a fabulous view of the city! An $825 room at Hotwire prices :) Thank you, Lord!

This is the only shot that we took of our hotel - it's at night, from the fountain across the street. If you are looking for a hotel in Toronto, the Sheraton Centre Hotel is an awesome place! Best service ever, beautiful, all the amenities, and perfect location.

Hope you enjoyed the first segment of our vacation!

Happy Tuesday!

One of Those Days

It's been one of those days...

A terrible day at work, followed by an awesome, unexpected evening with friends. Times like these make you say, "Thanks, Lord. You knew just what I needed."

Happy Monday :) ... don't worry, I'll share some fun stuff tomorrow.

Polyvore Loves

Two posts in one day! It's a summer miracle :)

Here's a little Polyvore Loves for you. Since it's "wedding season", I thought I'd put together a little bridal edition. The soft creams and yellows are so elegant. This style board could be for a formal indoor wedding, or in a dreamy garden wedding as well. Hope you enjoy it - and that it inspires you, if you're in a wedding sort of mood!

I Want Candy...

L
ove this! Kelsie linked me to a sweet site: Daily Drop Cap.If you love all typography, then you'll love this website. The illustrator, Jessica Hische, uploads a new letter daily. They can be used in blog posts, but they aren't for sale, and you can't use them for printed materials like newsletters or stationary. They're like juicy little candies - take a browse through them...

Speaking of candies, I've been munching on my favourites this afternoon:

Live Wires! My local candy shop sells them in little bite-sized pieces instead of the usual long strands. If you haven't tried them, they're wierdly delicious. They taste like fruit-flavoured licorice and have a yummy cream filled centre. Mmm, mmm...

Hope your Friday evening is delightful! Happy Friday!

Sneak Peek.

Lately I've been scheming up a little Etsy goodness... I want to share some craftacular fun with the world :) I've been leaning towards hair accessories, brooches, and other little goodies.

Here's a preview:

I've got some fun bohemian, Anthropologie-esque headbands in the works. There is lots of vintage fabric and lace involved - my favourite combination. I made the one above for myself last week, and I think it's my favourite hair accessory yet! It doesn't slip out of my hair, which I find is a real problem with headbands, and its fun colours and shabby chic appearance go with just about everything. Let me know what you think!

I'm crafting all evening, and hoping for some model shots within the next week. I'll share peeks with you every chance that I get!

Happy Wednesday!

Back In Gear.

It's been one week since I've been on my little blog! We took a fantastic trip to Toronto, got to see some friends, lots of activity... and when we arrived home, our computer was on the fritz. To make a long story short, I've lost most of my pictures and files. Our most recent shots are still on our camera, so I'm still a happy girl :)

I have so much to share with you - this trip provided me with some much needed blog inspiration. Here are some ideas that I'm working on for my next few posts:
  • A few recaps of our trip
  • A reworked vintage dress
  • A wedding decor post
  • An Etsy feature
  • A glimpse of my craft room
  • A recipe or two
  • A look at my latest mini-book

Don't you just adore the Black Apple print up top? It's my most-wanted Etsy item right now. Hope your week is lovely!

Happy Tuesday!

Polyvore Loves

Welcome to the latest edition of Polyvore Loves!

I chose two outfits this week - each of which will be in my suitcase for our weekend getaway. To be honest, I wore the first ensemble to work yesterday :) Gotta love repeats!

I love lightweight materials, and fun accessories. They make the summer a whole lot more bearable. Who doesn't love a flower in their hair, a wooden bracelet around their wrist, or a cute pair of flats on their feet? Not me!

Happy Tuesday - hope your week is lovely!

Photo Share

I've discovered a super fun timer on our camera. It takes three shots in a row, and it works really well for action photos. I took these of my littlest brother and Sager playing at the beach: my two littlest cuties. As far as littlest goes? My brother, who is 12, has now passed me in height, and Sage is pushing 70 pounds. They aren't very little :)

How beautiful is that beach? Gotta love Atlantic Canada - I'm so spoiled to be so close to the ocean. I'm not a big swimmer, but I love relaxing on the sand, and taking walks along the shoreline. It's probably my second favourite part of living here, first being so close to our families.

I hope you have a lovely weekend - happy Friday! Don't melt :)

Drifter.

Do you love driftwood as much as I do?

Driftwood is fabulous to look at up close. It has so many nooks and crannies that have been worn away over time. It's a lot of fun to photograph, too - I thought I'd share a few pictures with you!

Some simple summer pleasures:
  • Sunny days and cool evenings
  • Hot sand between your toes
  • Walking barefoot in the grass
  • Playing fetch with your doggy
  • Getting lotion rubbed on a sunburn
  • Eating strawberries with everything
I hope that your week as been as enjoyable as mine - sorry that I've been a little vacant. Summer's too important to waste :)

Happy Thursday!

Lomo Love

Just before we went on vacation, I received a super-anticipated E-bay package in the mail:

The Lomo Supersampler! It's a dream - you really must check it out. I had been browsing around, looking at various toy cameras, and this really caught my interest... and take a gander at the colour!

I had originally wanted a Fujifilm Instax (they take photos that look like narrow Polaroids) but the film is expensive, and only available online. The Supersampler takes good ol' 35 mm film - which is available at most retail establishments :)

The Supersampler essentially takes four shots in two, or .2 seconds (there's a switch on the back to switch between the two). Since it doesn't have a flash, all the photos need to be taken outdoors on a sunny day. The best part of the deal? No batteries! The shots came out looking really pretty and vintage-y. Mmm... yummo.

We took the camera with us when we went through the Public Gardens with our pals, Janelle and Patrick. I thought I'd show you a few of my favourites. Keep in mind that these shots are completely un-edited... so the colours are pretty muted. Enjoy!

J + P = darlings that I miss dearly

Lushie

I've discovered a new favourite product. I'm always on the look-out for a great shampoo that can help de-frizz me, and I think I've found the key to hair happiness...

Big is my latest Lush crush! It smells fabulous - the other day I was craving the scent, so I snuck some from the shower to wash my hands with. It has the coolest texture: think fluffy icing with tonnes of sea salt mixed in. I was a little apprehensive about the sea salt - what if it gets stuck in my hair? It washes out wonderfully, and you only need to use a little scoopful of the shampoo. Which is wonderful, considering the price: $22.95 for 330 mL. Like every Lush ingredient, though, it's made from all natural ingredients... and the amount of volume and shine makes it worth every penny.

The verdict? Head to Lush now to get some for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

Happy Friday!

Oh Canada Day!

Hey Canucks, I hope you had a lovely Canada Day! It was so nice for Daniel and I to be off together. We spent some time at a nearby park with our new picnic blanket:

I love the wacky blanket so much. It's really meant to be a rug, but when I saw it in the store, I immediately thought it would be a terrific picnic blanket to leave in the trunk of the car. I took a few shots of my favorite stripe sections:

Look at the cute little sequins!

We kicked around the soccer ball for a little bit:

We snacked on some yummy McMinis from McDonalds:

After spending all afternoon in the sun, we went for a drive through a more rural area. It was beautiful, and we saw lots of people walking their cute doggies. We love checking out houses and properties :) Such a fun pastime. We totally have the same taste in homes, which will come in handy when the time comes to buy one.

We headed home and decided to have a Canada Day barbecue. Daniel made the hamburgers, which we jazzed up a bit. We added fresh ginger, green onions, and chili powder to the typical ground beef and egg mixture. Mmm, a definite repeat! The ginger was lovely!

I threw together a nice summer-y salad: mixed baby greens, spinach, cucumber, carrots, coconut, sunflower seeds, strawberries, and lemon juice. It was uber delish, and it helped use up some of our produce :)

We also had some watermelon with our meal, but it wasn't very good. Even Sage wouldn't eat any... I think we let it sit on the counter for too long. When produce looks good, you expect it to taste good. Word to the wise: eat watermelon as soon as possible after purchasing :)

To top our meal off, we had some Sanpellegrino... my favourite drink in the whole wide world. It's the most refreshing thing ever! If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. It's even better than Orangina, which is also very tasty.

I hope the sun was shining today where you are! I worked on my freckles - and got a sunburn in the process. Ah, sweet summer days :)

Happy Thursday!
