Cupcake Uptake

His and hers... guess which one's which :) I'll give you a hint: I will take chocolate over any other flavour... but chocolate and peanut butter? It wins, hands down, every time.

Happy Thursday!

Polyvore Loves: Fall Trends

It's Polyvore Loves time!

I'm trying my best to not buy much clothes this fall... at least before I weed out my closet. Let's keep my weekend purchases a secret. Our little apartment doesn't have a lot of storage, so what would be a normal or typical amount of clothes in the average girl's closet seems overwhelming in ours. Daniel only has about eight things hanging, the rest he has to fold. What a darling, eh? Giving up valuable closet space... sweetheart.

To help me work with what I have, I've come up with four current fall trends that I think are groovy. You can use these ensembles to inspire you in making creative wardrobe choices with pieces you already have. Please don't make a "trendy" purchase - I know you have the basics right in your closet. Take a look:

Trend number one: Plaid. Have a cute plaid wool skirt that you've been itching to wear? What about that classic plaid button-up that you always rock? I used a plaid dress in my example, but throw on a pair of opaque tights, cute flats, and a pretty headband, and you'll be laughing...

plaid

Trend number two: Military-inspired. You probably have a cropped jacket or blazer in your closet that is double-breasted, has large buttons, or is khaki, beige, or brown. Why not rock it with dark wash jeans, knee high boots, a leather purse, and an armful of bangles? You're all set... and cute to boot!

Trend number three: Animal print. Whether it's a cardigan, blouse, skirt, or dress, I know you have something leopard. It can even be a purse or a pair of shoes. These prints look great and current with jewel tones, instead of the classic black. I love gold accessories with animal prints... when it's tastefully done. Hey, not tastefully done is cute too - you can rock the eighties if you want!
animal

Trend number four: Neutrals. This may sound like a given, but neutrals are big... and all shades are game. I love beige, pale pink, and light (or dark) gray together. The lady-like style is flattering on every shape and size... and if a colour is too light for you, don't wear it close to your face. I can't wear pale pink: I look like I'm naked and sick - it's basically the same colour as my skin tone. Try a variety of shades and colours... I know you'll feel fresh and current.

Moral of the trend story: learn to know what works for you. I have a post based on that thought alone, so I'll leave it at that... but expect some photos in that one :)

See? You don't need to even leave your room! You've got some cute fall trends hanging in your closet, itching to be used. Be adventurous! Try new combinations that you never thought would work together. Tell me how you make out...

Happy Wednesday!

Catch Up... and Peek

I can't get enough of these photos. Ever time I see sparkly lights, I have to take an out-of-focus picture of them. Seriously. Too much love.

I've been playing catch-up this week, recovering from our trip to my cousin's wedding (where the twinkly lights were). Taking a three-day weekend off of work apparently makes the following week hectic. Who knew? We are starting to get back on track though - we made a desperately-needed trip to the grocery store tonight, so hopefully I'll have my groove back by tomorrow night. Errands need to be ran, prescriptions need to be filled, summer clothes need to be put away, you know the drill. I also need to get back into my nightly walking routine... ei ya yei.

What I guess I'm trying to say is... I'm sorry for the lack of blog love lately. I do have some great posts up my sleeve though, so I thought I'd give you a peek at what's in store for the next few weeks:

- a "my bag" post
- a giveaway
- a look at my 23 before 24 progress
- a polyvore loves, fall trend edition
- a crafty-goodness post
- a look into my craft room
- a recipe or two

Of course there will be the "old faithfuls" as well - things I heart, mixtape, multitude Mondays... you know. I hope that you're as excited about the next month on my blog as I am!

Happy Tuesday!

Multitude Monday

It's that time of the week again! This week, I'm thankful for...

21 - fresh strawberries and ice cream
22 - a safe and fun weekend road trip
23 - a clean apartment
24 - a zip-line adventure
25 - Sunday worship meeting in Moncton
26 - an H&M stop
27 - a pup babysitter
28 - a comfy bed
29 - a new magazine
30 - casual Monday at work

What are you thankful for?

Zip It.

Guess who rocked the zipline on Friday? If you guessed us, you got it right :) Daniel, my youngest brother, and I went zip-lining over the weekend on our way to a wedding. I was terrified to try it, but it actually wasn't too scary. There were two different runs, a long slow one and a fast short one. Daniel took a video on his way down the second run, so I thought I'd share it with you (turn down your volume a little bit, the wind is kind of loud). If you ever get the chance, you have to try zip-lining, even if you're afraid of heights. I promise you will love it.

I hope your weekend was terrific - I'll share more of ours tomorrow.

Happy Monday!

To Market, To Market

Did I ever mention how much I love Farmer's Markets? They pretty much rock my world.

On our vacation, we stopped at two different types: a booth-style set-up with local sellers and suppliers, and an independently owned grocery-style market. Annapolis Valley is like the fridge's mecca. Mmm... I wish we lived closer. The produce! The honey! The baked goods! The crafts!

You would think that all throughout Atlantic Canada you would have a wealth of markets and "home grown" side of the road veggie stands, but not here. It's like the barren wasteland of locally-grown produce. There's a weekly indoor Farmer's Market, and there are several booths that I adore, but... it's petite, indoors, and not really my type of vendors. I also find it to be a very close-knit sort of group - not that that isn't lovely for those in the group, but it's not very welcoming to others. Boo-hiss. I need to bite the bullet and grow my own goods.

I do have some delicious apple cider in the fridge that we brought home on the weekend, so I'll sip that as I make supper. I'm going to try a new recipe tonight - wish me luck!

Happy Thursday!

Feel Good Moment.

This was the best hot chocolate that I've ever had. I went back the next day and bought a bag to make at home. So good.

I have a request. Please do this for me: make a cup of hot chocolate or herbal tea, sit down and curl up with a comfy throw, and listen to this mixtape. You'll thank me for your first fall evening. You're welcome. :)

Happy Wednesday!

Wildlife It.

Today we're playing some summer catch-up here on the blog. This was my busiest summer ever - and didn't it fly by?! I can't believe fall is here, but I had the chance to document some of the best days of summer and share them with you. Here's a special trip in the wild...

We (as in my co-workers and I) were hanging out with these groovy kiddos at the Wildlife Park a few weeks ago. I wish they weren't in cages and pens... they sure would be more photogenic :) I love the look of a focused slash unfocused grid or fence, though. Call me wierd.

It's Jacalyn and me! She keeps me sane at work, and she follows my blog religiously. You rock! Check out the scenery - seriously, that sky was my own Windows background. B-e-a-u-tiful!

My favourite little creature... looking as sneaky as a fox. Sly guy.

"That cougar is stunning." - favourite quote of the day

Last but certainly not least, we have my little porcupine. I have the cutest video of him dancing. What a rockstar!

I just popped a batch of mint chocolate chip cookies in the oven (bad me, I know, I know) and I can't wait to sit down with my newest book. Hope you had a great Tuesday!

Multitude Monday

Welcome back!

I've decided to make my multitude list on Mondays... so we can have Multitude Mondays! How cool is alliteration? I'm a geek sometimes :) If you don't remember, every week I think of ten things that I'm currently thankful for, and share them here with you. It's a great way to fight the negative Nellies, and it's a terrific way to boost your mood. I started counting last week, so we'll start with 11.

Today, I'm thankful for:

11 - a husband that makes laundromat trips without me saying a word
12 - the last glass of chocolate milk (my guilty pleasure)
13 - a relaxing vacation week
14 - new fall handsoap - mmm, mmm
15 - three snail mails sent out today
16 - a fun online class
17 - a promotion for a darling co-worker :)
18 - a breathtaking whale-watching tour
19 - fresh, yummy smelling towels
20 - one of my favourite friends on the mend - yay Kel!

I hope you had a dreamy weekend! The photo above is from our whale-watching trip... more to come this week...

Happy Monday!

Details

Don't you just adore detail shots? The colours pop, the shapes shine, and the depth and dimensions are decadent. I love getting up close and personal...

All of the photos were taken at Sherbrooke Village on Monday.

Enjoy!

Polyvore Loves

Just in time for the changing seasons - it's Polyvore Loves!

This week, my new Anthropologie catalog arrived in the mail. Be still, my heart. In honour of the new catalog, I chose two stylish Anthropologie outfits this week. The pretty fall combinations have me excited for cardigans and coziness. Can I have a $10000 gift card, please? Thanks!

Etsy Love: DrikaB

This clutch is one of my favourite thrift finds. A few months ago, while I was rummaging through a bin, I came across this little treasure. I thought, "hmm... that looks Etsy-ish" and took the clutch to cashier and paid like $2. Nice. It had a little label inside, which I of course searched once I got home, to discover...

DrikaB! It's the sweetest little Etsy shop with beautiful colour combinations. The fabric choices are perfect, and the little leaf on the zipper pulls are darling - I think you'll love the shop!

I keep my clutch in the car where it holds all of my sunglasses, and tucks perfectly into the glove compartment. It's got a cute little birdie and the fabrics are divine. Nice thrifting, don't you think?!

Happy Monday!

Multitude List

Heidi posted yesterday about a great idea that her friend blogs about: a multitude list. It's a great plan that I'd like to get on board with. Every week, I'll be posting a list of ten things that I'm thankful for. It's a great reminder to be satisfied with what we have, and to focus on the positive.

This week, I'm thankful for:

1 - my parents celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday
2 - a full-time job that helps to pay for all the bills
3 - an educated husband that makes up our primary income
4 - a cozy little place that is great to come home to every night
5 - a Saviour that loves me always
6 - chilly evenings - cardigans, you steal my heart
7 - little brothers that aren't too cool to say "I love you"
8 - road trips with my darling
9 - my affectionate pup
10 - skies like this:

Clouds are my favourite!

23 before 24

My latest goal to check off my 23 before 24 list is drinking lots of water...

I know keeping hydrated is so good for my body, but it's tough remembering to drink regularly. I've been getting into the habit of filling a 1L bottle with cold water before I go into the office at work and making sure I drink it all before I leave - typically in about two hours. I'm pumped on the days that I finish the bottle early and have to refill it for the rest of the afternoon. We've been having water with our meals as well, and saving juice or milk for the mornings or snack time. I really notice a difference on the days that I forget or don't take the time to drink water. My body feels sluggish and yucky - what more incentive do you need to drink it??

I'm taking the rest of the evening to relax and browse through my new Anthropologie catalog. It's been a rough week and I need some me-time :)

Happy Wednesday!

Polyvore Loves

Happy long weekend! I spend the afternoon at my company's summer picnic. I'm chilling around home this evening, working on a mini book and making peach crisp. I thought I'd share a Polyvore Loves with you - it's been a while.

This edition of Polyvore Loves only consists of items that I currently have in my closet. I'm going to try to not buy any clothes for a while, and just work what I have... and that includes no thrifting, either. I know, I know, can I really do it? It's time, though - my closet has far too many pieces that I haven't worn before. So - here's something I could rock on date night. Trouser jeans, olive cardigan, coral tee, gladiators, and a wooden necklace. Enjoy!

Wedding Bells

Hey you! Happy Friday! I'm finally getting around to posting some wedding photos from the weekend. I wasn't sure how many to post, so here's a little taste of what we took.

Colin and Therese incorporated various Celtic elements into their wedding. It was a beautiful day... an outdoor wedding with a delicious supper in a big lodge-type building. Here are their programs:

The two of us got all shined up. Daniel was in the wedding party, so he was snazzy in his pinstriped tux. I wanted to match the wedding colours, but not be wearing purple, if you know what I mean. Match, not try to be a bridesmaid. I found my never-been-worn Calvin Klein dress at Value Village - how sweet was that?! My hair comb was from Whichgoose on Etsy. Now that the wedding's over, I can't wait to wear it all the time!

There was rain off and on all day - the chairs were actually set up in the tent right beside the outdoor location, and moved back out just before the ceremony. It rained on our wedding day, too - but an overcast sky makes the best pictures. The location was gorgeous - right on the Bras D'or Lakes. The program boys were just chilling before everyone arrived:

My official date for the wedding was Daniel's step-mom. Daniel's dad married them, so her and I were both flying solo and decided to hang out. But... this little cutie in the MacLennan tartan bow tie was my partner in crime for most of the day. This kid kills me. I actually whispered into his baby brother's ear, "Just so you know, R's my favourite, but when you get bigger, you might be equal." He's 5 months, I don't think I offended him :)

The most face-on shot of the bride and groom that I got all day. Hopefully we can have some copies of their professional pics when they get them back. Speaking of professional, go check out their photographer - he's awesome! I saw some sneak peeks from the day - amazing - but they won't get their photos for another 8 - 10 weeks.

We of course had to take some classic self-portraits. What would the day be without the arm reach? Cute...

... and mafia...

The tables at the reception were beautiful, my photos don't do them justice. They used hydrangeas, one of my absolute favourites. Lots of candles, too... love 'em.

The wedding cake was amazing! They asked Daniel's mom to make a rustic looking cake, and Therese's mom arranged the flowers. Colin made the cake stand from a couple of tree trunk... Therese had seen a similar one in a magazine, and he's crafty like that... what a keepsake!

The flower girl was as cute as a button. I'm a little biased, she is my niece, after all. She was my table buddy at the reception - cutie. She was totally unperturbed by me asking to see her shoes... Italic

... and that's it for share-ables! I hope you liked the glimpse into their special day. It was a great experience, and I'm glad I got to be a part of it.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend - a long one at that - and be careful with Hurricane Earl around!
