Multitude Monday

Glorious Cape Breton Sunset.

It's Multitude Monday! My posts have been sporadic lately because life's been all helter-skelter! There's been so much going on, some share-worthy and some not. Here's a quick list of things that I'm thankful for, I'm headed out the door in ten minutes on a road trip with my mama and aunt.

This week, I'm thankful for:

430 - getting to see my friends Janelle and Patrick tomorrow!
431 - awesome airline deals
432 - "Earplanes" - a lady I know told me about these special earplugs that help with flying.
433 - being all packed and ready to go
434 - having my mom and aunt available to drive me to the airport
435 - meeting Dan for a quick lunch today before I leave
436 - seeing darling little Sam again!
437 - being brave enough to go on a solo adventure
438 - having my daily reading this morning being the perfect one. Thanks, God.
439 - starting two new books I borrowed from Rachel

What are you thankful for today?

Happy Monday!

Sunshiney Day

After today's glorious sunshine, I'm longing for beautiful sun-filled summer days like this:

Soon enough, soon enough.

I spent the day with my Mom today. We thrifted our little hearts out. Mom and I had planned on going to a cooking class that's about an hour away. When we arrived to register, all the spots had been filled. Boo! I did manage to find a few new to me things for summer, including a linen vest (which I had been looking for!), a pair of North Face workout pants and a pretty coral top with a crocheted collar. Not bad! (I'll try to share some pics soon...) Mom found a few things, too, so we stopped for a yummy lunch and then headed home. I'm meeting a couple of friends from high-school tomorrow - I'm excited to hang out with them after all these years!

Did you do anything exciting this week? Do share!

Happy Wednesday!

Yay!

... and it's not hard to tell by the looks of my most recent Etsy favourites:

I'm seriously crushing on some yellow and mint. What else is new?
I hope that the sun is shining where you are on this glorious first day of spring!

Polyvore Loves

I had so much fun creating today's edition of Polyvore Loves!

My friend Jacalyn is taking a vacation in a couple of weeks: the lucky girl is making a trip to California and she has tickets to see Ellen! There aren't a whole lot of spring options out in stores yet, so I tried to mix items that you could still use back home in cold(er) Nova Scotia. I came up with some options to help her pack smart. The more room left in your suitcase, the more you can bring back home, right? Right!

To start with, when travelling, you need to be comfortable. I paired a fun floral cardigan with a detailed beige tank. A cute (and comfy!) denim skirt and brown sandals round out the lower half. I live in cardigans, and they're perfect for travelling - anytime you can wear removable layers when flying or driving, do!

The next outfit would be great for sightseeing - a winery tour, shopping, lunch with the girls. I used the floral cardigan again, but paired it with a simple denim dress and walkable flats. The peep toe gives them a dose of style, but these shoes would allow you to walk all day long. That's what you want - you don't want to be carrying bandages for all of your new blisters. The chic sunglasses are a cool dose of eye protection for the beautiful Californian sun.

Jacalyn plans to head to the San Diego Zoo for a day on her trip. I chose a cool and versatile pair of black cropped ankle-length pants - she can use them over and over again. The stylish top is a pretty floral print, but made from a lightweight t-shirt material. A cross-body purse keeps Jacalyn's essentials close, and the simple gold studs up the style factor. I brought the brown flats back - the shirt has both brown and black in its pattern.

Now, for the Ellen taping! They recommend that you wear bright colours in order to have a better chance at appearing closer to the stage. This cool top does the trick! The bold graphic print is fun and modern, and the cut is loose, trendy, and comfortable and goes perfectly with slim-fitting pants. I grabbed the ankle pants to go with the shirt, and an adorable pair of Jessica Simpson red pumps. I love the look of a pair of cool heels with cropped pants - so chic! Jacalyn's sunglasses will help her while she's waiting in the line outside.
Every girl needs a dress-up outfit while on vacation - just incase you go to a play or a formal restaurant. I chose a simple black dress that you could wear again and again. The red heels are back - the little red belt would really pop with the heels, too. The gold studs and stack of bangles are stylin', and the clutch is just big enough to carry your cards and lipstick.
I had a blast sharing this post with you today. I hope this sparks some ideas on how to work pieces in your wardrobe that you already own!

Do you have any go-to pieces for travelling? Do share!

Happy Tuesday!

Multitude Monday

Can you believe another week is beginning? I certainly can't! I had a great weekend, but I'm glad that it's a fresh week. I'm all for the fresh starts :) There are a few things that I need to get caught up on around our home, like cleaning the bathroom and mopping the floors. Isn't it funny how you tend to leave those things until you really need to do them? Yuck - bad habit alert! I'm off to the walking track in the afternoon, and then meeting a friend after supper tonight to do a closet purge. Can't wait!

Since it's Monday, you know what it's time for...

Multitude Monday!

This week, I'm thankful for:

420 - going to Two if by Sea for breakfast

421 - getting to spend quality time with mama bear

422 - a delicious hot apple cider with cinnamon

423 - having fun being nosey and looking through model homes

424 - getting my rings back from the jewellers

425 - a cozy night in with mini sundaes, Jost blueberry dessert wine and a movie
(Guess who likes the cherries? Me!)

426 - getting my defensive driving course over with
427 - trying to rely on iPhoto more than the soon-to-be deceased Picnik
428 - having a more blogging energy and inspiration this week
429 - attending a fun potluck over the weekend

What are you thankful for today?

Happy Monday!

Happy Weekend!

Cute Dad in a ginormous lawnchair

After a long and busy week, it's finally Friday night! We took my dad to the airport for work this morning - he needed to be there for 6:30 am... so we left at 3 am. Not fun - but I'm glad I got to say goodbye to him! I talked to him this afternoon and he had arrived safely - but I still miss him. I don't live at home anymore, but there's something about knowing one of your family members are away. It really makes you thankful to have them in your life - and want to avoid all arguments with those you love. Know what I mean? Maybe I'm getting sentimental in my old age - but I hate conflict with anyone. Good thing Dad and I get along like two peas in a pod :)

As for an exciting Friday night, here's what I've got planned: ironing, lots of ironing. Dan and I are taking our defensive driving course tomorrow (yes, about seven years later - shame, shame) and one of my favourite consignment shops is just down the street from where the course is being held. I'm taking a bunch of summer clothes there, but I need to get them all fresh and pressed before I leave. Out with the old, in with the new. I can't wait to wear some bright, springy colours!

I logged a serious workout week the past four days - three treadmill nights and one zumba night. Honestly? It's probably the most I've done in one week in my life. Does anyone have a good calf stretch? My right one kills me during/after exercise. It's like charlie-horse pain, not good. I should think about using up our free massage sessions, eh? And go to the pediatrist to get some kick-butt free sneakers. The perks of a good health plan :)

Need a little smile for your St. Patty's Day weekend? Here's a little something:

Girls' Weekend

On Saturday and Sunday, I had a much-needed girls' weekend away. Not that I'm currently swamped with work or anything, but I am feeling a little overwhelmed with life. Those two days away were just what the doctor ordered. Seriously, when I woke up on Monday after arriving home on Sunday night, I felt completely rejuvenated. Yay!

I got to see my darling friend, Heidi, at the best cheesecakery ever! The Sweet Hereafter is the place to go for a delicious dessert. The atmosphere is the only thing that can rival their amazing cheesecake. Here's a peek at my slice, a piece of chocolate peanut-buttery goodness:

Part of the reason that my friends and I went up was to attend a baby shower for a brand-new little papoose. (Remember the one I made the button art for?) We got to meet sweet little Lara for the first time!

Look at how proud her two aunties are:

There's something extra special about a shower that's held after the baby is over. You can oh and ahh over  all of the teensy outfits and actually imagine them on the baby. So cute.

On Sunday, we went to church there and then had a super fantastic lunch at The Wooden Monkey. If you are in Halifax and haven't been there yet, it's a must-go-to. I have yet to be disappointed with their meals and service. Top-notch.

Pretty ladies! My road trip buddies, Thianna + Rachel.

I had the pulled pork with apple salad and roasties. So amazing...

We shopped 'til we dropped over the weekend. I found a cute new top at H&M and some soap at Bath and Body Works. I also got a new facial moisturizer from Lush since I'm just about out. Dan lucked out: there was a great sale on dress shirts at Banana Republic that I took advantage of. He'll be one stylin' dude!

Did you have any fun over the weekend? Do share!

Hockey Night in Cape Breton

What an action-packed weekend I had! Seriously, it's feast or famine. Sometimes we can go weeks with just doing the same old routine, but this weekend really switched things up! On Friday, Dan and I took a little trip to get our car's oil changed - we walked around town while we were waiting and went for an ice cream treat at Coldstone Creamery. I had "Founder's Favourite" which was vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce, hot fudge, pecans and brownie chunks, and Dan had a cookies 'n' cream milkshake. For supper, we met up with friends at a yummy new Italian restaurant. It was fun to get to hang out with them - we haven't had the chance since we moved over a year ago.
After that, we found out that there was a hockey game going on, so we bought tickets and watched our first hockey game together for this year.

What a close game! With only four minutes left, the game was tied. Our team managed to win in an overtime shoot-out. Yay! (And by our team... I mean the more local out of the two. "Our" team is actually not very good this year. Ha ha ha)

I was sneaking little shots of Dan. It's the only way I can get a cute picture of him.
What is it with guys wanting to make crazy faces every. single. time?

The blimp was so adorable! The other side was a Wendy's frosty.
I'd love to be the guy that drives it... what a fun job.

Our team has the white jerseys on - lots of shaggy long hockey hair on the ice that night!

That wraps up the first part of my weekend. I'll be back with Saturday and Sunday's details.

Happy Tuesday!

Multitude Monday

Each week, I try to post ten things that I'm thankful for. It's a great way to start my week off fresh - it helps to give me a better perspective. It's so easy to get bogged down and this blog series is a fun way to counteract that! Feel free to join in through the comments on this post or a blog post on your own blog - I'm all for sharing. Tonight I got Dan to give me a hand coming up with my latest post, it was kind of fun brainstorming together.

FREE to a good home!

I've been going through bits and pieces around our home today, and I came across a couple of items that I would like to giveaway!

I bought these two prints from Etsy a few years ago - I don't even remember the sellers anymore. But... for you I went and found the listings :) You're welcome. Neither one of them suit my current taste and decor, so I'd like to give them away to someone who would give them a new place to live! Don't worry about framing them: if you like them, stick 'em on your fridge or inspiration board.

Take a look:

P.S. Know someone else that would like one of them?
E-mail me and you can give a print to them!

Link Love

Since it's Wednesday, that dreaded middle of the week where it feels like you have too much to do in too little time, I'd like to share some link love with you to brighten your day!

An awesome new site was launched on Valentine's Day, and I thought that I would spread the love, so you can reap the benefits too.

Beautifully Rooted is a great website with lots of female contributors. Their five topics are believe, create, nourish, nurture, and sanctuary. Here's what the creators have to say about the site:

Beautifully Rooted was created by Heather Hamilton of Life Made Lovely and Rachel Reeves of No.17.  Born out of a true desire to create a inclusive place where each woman could come, be inspired & creatively think, Heather and Rachel set out to make a site that highlights a woman’s uniqueness, in and through Christ.  Heather and Rachel believe that each woman is a beautiful individual and has been created especially for a purpose. Only when we're deeply & beautifully rooted in Christ can we each unlock our journey through Him. Each day you will find several posts to inspire you in the area of home, parenting, nourishment, faith and beautiful creative inspirations.

Besides large doses of inspiration, I've found lots of great free printables through the blog, too. Be sure to click over and see for yourself! It's updated daily with lots of great posts!

Monogram Art

Friends of ours had their first baby girl last week! I wanted to give her something handmade and create something especially for her - since I know her mama's crafty and would appreciate it. (You know what I mean? Some people just don't get handmade.) I knew that I wanted to incorporate buttons - because you know I love my button collection. I had a teensy little blank canvas laying around, too, about 4" x 6".

Here's what I came up with:

A little monogram art! An L for the baby's name, Lara (cute name, eh?). I left the canvas white because I really wanted the buttons to pop. I grabbed a handful of my most colourful buttons, some with thread, some without, and started creating. I played around with the layout until I came up with the size and colour placement of the buttons that I wanted. I threw a few larger buttons into the mix, too, just to break up the pattern a little bit.

Once I had decided on how I wanted the buttons to lay, I heated up my trusty glue gun and got glueing. For a quick project  - about 20 minutes, start to finish - I think it turned out pretty cute! I love the way that the canvas looks with the bib that I ordered from Etsy:

I hope her mama likes the little present!

Happy Tuesday!

Multitude Monday

My two boys snuggling on the couch

Guess what it's time for? Multitude Monday!

Each week, I come up with ten things that I'm currently thankful for. It's an awesome way to look at the things that are going right in my life, since it's so easy to get weighed down. God gives us so many mini gifts in the run of the day and it's tough remembering them all. Feel free to join in through the comments and share what you're currently thankful for. Or, make a blog post yourself! I'm all for spreading the love! I got the idea at least a year ago from Heidi, who got it from another friend. Pass on the idea!

Today, I'm thankful for:

400 - having phone chats with two of my gal pals over the past week. Spoiled!
401 - feeling better after spending Saturday night and all day Sunday in bed
402 - my mama, who came over last night and made me supper and did the dishes
403 - having a working washer and dryer to take care of oodles of laundry
404 - the excitement of a seat sale: I need to count my pennies
405 - finding a pretty new Pyrex for super cheap
406 - talking with my boss and discovering that I'm starting work earlier than originally planned
407 - watching Courageous. What a great family movie!
408 - having enough food in the fridge that I need to come up with new recipes. So blessed.
409 - finding cool Bible verse printables online. Yay for freebies!

What are you thankful for today?

Happy Monday!
